Rust Dekor

Real rust.
Real character.

Decorative rust finish for walls that need raw industrial character, earthy colour, and natural texture.

Rust Dekor is not a printed imitation of rust. It creates a real oxidised effect using metallic particles and a rust activator, so every surface develops its own natural patina.

Warm, raw and unmistakably industrial, Rust Dekor works best when used with intention. One wall can be enough to change the whole mood of a room — especially when paired with concrete, black metal, aged wood, leather, glass or warm evening light.

Every application is slightly different. The movement of the trowel, the amount of material and the reaction of the activator all shape the final result. That unpredictability is part of the appeal.

Real oxidised effect

A rust finish created by reaction, not just by colour.

Made for statement walls

Best when used as an accent, not as background.

Raw, but warm

Industrial character with earthy tones that can make modern interiors feel less cold.

Where will it live?

A little rust goes a long way.

Rust Dekor is a strong surface. It does not need to cover every wall to make a room feel different. In most interiors, it works best as one decisive feature: a wall, a niche, a bar front, a reception background or a carefully chosen architectural detail. Pair it with exposed materials and simple furniture: the more restrained the room, the stronger the rust effect can speak.

Best for

  • Feature walls

Behind a sofa, TV, bed or dining table — anywhere the wall is meant to become part of the room’s identity.

  • Hallways & entrances

A strong first impression in spaces that often feel too plain or forgotten.

  • Cafés, bars & studios

Ideal for places that need atmosphere, texture and a more memorable interior character.

  • Reception areas & showrooms

A strong background for brands, products, lighting and signage.

  • Loft-inspired homes

Works well with concrete, black steel, exposed brick, oak, walnut, leather and simple contemporary furniture.

Good to know

Rust Dekor is expressive. Use it where the room can handle contrast, texture and warmth. If the rest of the interior is already very busy, one smaller surface may work better than a full wall. It is best for industrial-style interiors that need a stronger point of view.

What you will need

Three steps. One real rust effect.

Rust Dekor is a three-step interior wall system. Prepare the wall with Primer Classic, apply Rust Dekor with the gel activator, then protect the surface with Finish Classic.

The three coats

  1. 01Primer ClassicPrepares and unifies the wall before the decorative finish.
  2. 02Rust DekorThe decorative rust plaster, with metallic particles and the activator as a gel.
  3. 03Finish ClassicThe protective finish that completes the surface.

Rust Dekor is designed for interior walls and decorative feature surfaces. It is not the right choice when you need a calm, neutral background. This finish is meant to be seen.

Tools and preparation

Prepare everything before the rust starts working.

Rust Dekor is simple in principle, but timing matters. Once the material is mixed with water, working time begins. Have the wall prepared, tools ready, and edges protected before you start.

Application tools

  • Venetian trowel

For applying Rust Dekor and shaping the surface.

  • Roller or brush

For applying Primer Classic, the activator gel and Finish Classic.

  • Mixing bucket

For preparing the Rust Dekor mixture.

  • Mixing paddle and drill

    For thorough mechanical mixing.

  • Measuring cup or scale

For adding the correct amount of water.

  • Fine-grit sandpaper

For preparing older painted surfaces or small imperfections before priming.

  • Putty knife or scraper

For removing loose paint and repairing damaged areas.

Prepare and protect

  • Masking tape

For clean edges around ceilings, skirting boards, frames, switches and fittings.

  • Protective film, paper or dust sheets

To cover floors, furniture and nearby surfaces.

  • Cleaning cloths

For wiping down the surface and removing residue.

  • Vacuum cleaner or soft dust brush

To remove sanding dust before priming.

  • Surface cleaner or degreaser

Useful for older painted surfaces or areas with grease or dirt.

  • Filling compound

For small cracks, holes and imperfections before priming.

  • Protective gloves and safety glasses

Recommended when mixing and applying the product and the activator.

Good to know

  • Use it on a prepared wall

The surface should be mature, solid, clean, dry and free from grease, dust or loose paint.

  • Do not skip the primer

Primer Classic helps unify the base before the decorative rust layer.

Step by step

How to apply the rust effect.

  1. 01

    Apply the Rust plaster

Apply the Rust plaster to the properly prepared surface using a trowel, and create the texture you want.

Don’t be surprised by its grey colour. The plaster is naturally grey and contains real metal particles, which are also grey at this stage. The characteristic rust colour and effect will only develop after the activator is applied.

Mix properly — to the powder, add the recommended amount of water (about 30%), and mix thoroughly.

Watch the working time — use the mixed material within approximately 2 hours.

    Drying time: 6 hours

  2. 02

    Apply the Activator gel

Once the plaster is dry, apply the Activator gel evenly using a roller. The activator reacts with the real metal particles in the plaster and gradually creates an authentic rust effect.

The advantage of the gel is that the rusting process comes to a natural end on its own, so you don’t have to worry about when or how to stop the effect.

Let the patina be natural. Rust Dekor is not meant to look perfectly even. Stains, movement, darker areas and natural variation are part of the surface. If you were to apply more than one coat of the activator, the colour would turn dark brown.

Allow the reaction to fully develop before applying the protective finish.

    Waiting time: 12 hours

  3. 03

    Apply the Finish

After 12 hours, protect the developed rust effect with the Finish coat.

    Drying time: 6 hours

A quick shopping guide

Start with the coverage. Then choose the wall.

Rust Dekor is usually used as an accent, so start by choosing the surface carefully. A smaller wall, niche or architectural detail can often have more impact than covering a large room.

What you will need

  • A tin of Primer Classic — the coat that grips the wall.

    Primer Classic

    0.7 l × 1

  • A 1 kg pack of Rust Dekor — the plaster, and the activator that turns it.

    Rust Dekor

1 kg pack × 2, for your 4 m² wall.

  • A tin of Finish Classic — the coat that seals the surface.

    Finish Classic

    0.7 l × 1

One 1 kg pack covers about 2.5 m² in one layer.

Rust Dekor is expressive and hand-applied. If your wall is close to the coverage limit, choose one extra pack. It is better to have a little left over than to interrupt the surface halfway through.

Industrial, but not cold.

Rust Dekor works best when it has something to contrast with. Pair it with soft upholstery, warm wood, black metal, concrete, simple ceramics or plants. Let the rust bring character — and let the rest of the room give it balance.
